First Ever Guiding Inner London International Day!

On 15th February 2014 30 very enthusiastic leaders, Guides and Senior Section members headed to Pax lodge for the first ever GILT International Day to learn more about the international opportunities open to members of Guiding.

GILT stands for the Guiding Inner London Team and it was set up to promote and facilitate international opportunities for girls in the 4 inner London counties (London South East, London South West, London North East and London North West).

The Guides and Senior Section members had an activity packed morning doing activities from each of the World Centres including putting up tents, doing a water run, doing a balloon debate and completing an interactive tour of Pax lodge. While the leaders had a very informative morning doing their travelling abroad module, and after all that hard brain work they built some impressive world monuments from spaghetti and marshmallows.

After a wonderful lunch provided by the international volunteers from Pax lodge, it was back to work, with the Guides and Senior Section members participating in a trading game relating to chocolate and the leaders had an information session about taking girls over seas covering some important topics from the forms you need to fill in to some fundraising tips.

The afternoon was continued with both groups having a panel Q&A session where they could ask all their big and little questions to experienced international participants including leaders and participants from International Camps in the UK and Europe to long haul region service projects

Our final activity for the day was a very special pinning ceremony where the flag was raised and each attendee received an official Pax Lodge pin to mark their first visit to a world centre.

Everyone headed home enthused about the International opportunities offered by Girlguiding and looking forward to the next GILT event – our selection day for region and GILT trips in summer 2015.
